Worship Director Job Description
Job Title: Worship Director, Downs United Methodist Church, Downs, Illinois
Hours: 20 hours per week/1040 per year
Compensation: $20/hour (paychecks twice a month on the 15th and the 30th of the month.)
Qualifications:
- musical leadership ability
- a strong relationship with God and Jesus Christ, an active Christian faith, and an ability to share that through music and worship
- some technical ability with sound systems and computers as they relate to the worship service
- ability to take direction and to lead a team of volunteers ranging from Pre K to senior citizens.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Recruit, train and lead all worship volunteers (musicians and technical) at Downs UMC.
- Lead the children’s musical programs in conjunction with parent volunteers and some of the liturgical elements of worship on assigned Sunday mornings and holiday/special services.
- Assist the Pastor in the coordination of music on the assigned Sunday morning worship services. Provide order of worship items to Administrative Assistant for the bulletin. Must be able to plan and work ahead at least one week in advance.
- Responsible for selecting congregational songs and leading music during the worship service on assigned Sundays.
- Coordinate and communicate with the Praise Band.
- Create slides for the Pro-Presenter for Sunday morning, ensure copyright compliance and maintain a database of music, and slide backgrounds owned by the church. Maintain music files & licenses. Get music for the musicians if necessary.
- Help foster an environment in the church that invites people to share their creative and musical gifts in the worship service.
- Oversee the media technicians and provide support for sound and projection technology.
- Potential for developing, leading, and directing a choir in services and practices.
- Attend Ad Council meetings and offer input for worship planning.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must sing on pitch, understand music notation and theory, understand worship flow, play an instrument, have basic people skills, ability to work with children, ability to lead, understand song arrangement and instrumentation, basic organizational and administrative skills, good communication skills, ability to meet deadlines.
Accountable to: Pastor and the Staff Parish Relations Committee
