Pastoral Care During a Pandemic

We believe that the ministry of the church should never stop, and that access to spiritual direction and pastoral care is a vital part of our churches ministry. Here are the ways that you can connect with our ministers.

  • Set up an Appointment – Both our Pastor (Ken) and Youth Minister (Kyle) are available by appointment, and there is usually not too long of a wait. Simply email office@downsumc.org or call 378-2651 to request a time to meet with a minister. These can be by phone, or via Zoom, or sometimes even in-person.
  • Call to Request Prayer – Our church staff keeps a very close eye on the office phone during a pandemic. The office number is 378-2651. We utilize call forwarding at times, and check the messages regularly. If you don’t get an answer right away you will get a call back very soon. We apologize for the longer recorded message on the church phone but there’s a lot of information to share. Hang in there and leave your contact information after the message. We will call you back ASAP.
  • Church Prayer List and Prayer Chain – Our entire church community is ready to pray for you. If you have a prayer request you can send it to office@downsumc.org and it will be placed on our church prayer list which is passed out to all of our prayer partners in the congregation. Emergency prayer requests are sent same-day through our email prayer chain. God is with you and so are we, share your prayer requests and we will be in prayer for you.
  • Open Doors on Sunday Morning – We do not want anyone to come to the church building on Sunday morning and find a locked door. Because of that, on Sunday morning the doors are unlocked to the Sanctuary from 9-10:30 AM, even when in-person worship is temporarily suspended due to the pandemic. During those times the space is yours to quietly pray, and there will also be someone there to pray with you. We offer this as a spiritual and social service to the community even during the times that in-person worship is not happening. Mask wearing and social distance is expected on Sunday mornings, and the steward will limit the number of people in the space to 10 or less.
