Adult Opportunities
Inductive Bible Study
This class meets on Sunday evenings at 4:00, in the Chapel. The teaching style is a verse by verse readthrough of scripture with both lecture and discussion. No sign up required, you are welcome to join them for an evening to try it out.
Journey Groups
Journey groups are a unique kind of small group that focus on accountability, prayer, and meaningful fellowship. This is not a Bible Study group, but rather a group of committed Christians who are encouraging one another to live out their faith by watching over one another in love. The book of Hebrews (10:24) encourages us to provoke one another to love and good deeds. Journey groups do just that, and they offer prayer support. They meet weekly and we encourage a six-week trial period for new members. Contact the church office to learn more – office@downsumc.org
Senior’s Bible Study
This is a great group of people on Tuesdays at 10 AM in a hybrid format (some via Zoom, some in person) for a class that is taught by the pastor. They study a book of the Bible front to back before moving on to the next one, and follow a lot of the different rabbit trails (interesting topics) brought up in that particular book. They pray together and keep a strong online community. If you’re wondering if you qualify as a Senior, our working definition is this: You are available on Tuesday at 10 AM =) No need to sign up, just show up and join us, or email the pastor for an invite to join online – pastor@downsumc.org
Sunday School
A wonderful group that has a fellowship focus and is slowly regaining strength and attendance after the Pandemic. They meet in person on Sunday mornings at the church at 8:30 AM. Teachers rotate, and video curriculum is often used, because the focus is on discussion and fellowship together before the worship service. No registration needed, just walk in and be welcome!
